The Bills for an act seeking the upgrade of some Academic institutions into universities from different parts of the country have passed third reading at the House of Representatives.
This followed the adoption of the report of the house Committee on Tertiary institutions by the committee Chairman Hon. Abubakar Hassan Fulata during plenary session.
Speaking to Newsmen after the presentation of the reports Hon. Fulata said the bill seeks to repeal the federal polytechnic Kaduna and establish the federal university of technology Kaduna to provide training and teaching instructions in every aspect of education and such other fields of applied relevant to the needs of education development in Nigeria as well as the bill which seeks to establish the federal university of education Zaria for the promotion and development of teacher education.
” These bills are very important, in the past, the issue of converting Kaduna Polytechnic into a federal university of technology wasn’t backed by law but now with the passage of this bill in the House and as soon as we get a concurrence from the senate, it is our hope that the President will ascent to the bills and it would become a binding law” Hon. Fulata said
The lawmaker said when the President ascent to the bill establishing the institutions it would go a long way in promoting education.
Speaking on the challenges of financial backing for the institutions, the lawmaker said that provisions would definitely be made for that and it is expected that the Institutions would be under the supervision of the Nigerian Universities Commission NUC.
Other reports submitted include a bill for an act to repeal the Nigerian Army University Biu and enact the federal university Biu and the bill seeking to establish the Alvan Ikoku federal university of Education Owerri in Imo state.
