The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of Kaduna Polytechnic has kicked off a traditional ASUP Week in the institution. The Chairman of the Kaduna Polytechnic chapter, Comrade Abubakar Jibrin Abdullahi, said the week began with a road walk to promote within the main campus of the Institution to boost the health of members through exercise.
“The purpose of this event is to relieve our stress while we exercise our bodies after a long series of academic sessions. There is a need to come together to meet, share joy, move around, and entertain the public of the institution in a friendly manner.
“The activity symbolizes the spirit of togetherness and unity in working towards the progress of Kaduna Polytechnic, the Chairman explained.
Comrade Abubakar appreciated the commitment of the Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic and the assistance given to the members of the Union in all academic ramifications, thanking him for sending a representative to take part in the road walk activity. The ASUP chairman also appreciated the level of participation of members in the morning exercise, stating that the line of events will help boost the mental and physical well-being of Kaduna Polytechnic staff.
“In subsequent days, we have a stress management lecture to be delivered by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics to highlight the most important things to do to protect and improve our health. We have public lectures in the evening, and there will be a volleyball game between KadPoly academics and other institutional staff,” the Chairman explained.
In his remarks, Aminu Uba Alhassan, the Deputy Chairman of KadPoly ASUP, explained the importance of exercise to the members of the Union, stressing that it helps regulate diseases like hypertension and blood pressure. The Deputy Chairman also applauded the members for their teeming participation.
“ASUP Week is a one-in-two-year event to organize staff to participate in a series of activities to reduce the stress of work done. We have an array of activities for this week that our staff will enjoy as members of our great Union,” Comrade Ina said.
Comrade Ahmad Yakubu Abdulazeez from the Department of Polymer and Textile Technology and a member of KadPoly ASUP, expressed satisfaction with the event and commended the commitment of KadPoly ASUP for coming together to participate in the road walk.
Comrade Shamsudden Shehu Sa’idu, the Financial Secretary of ASUP KadPoly, highlighted the importance of ASUP Week for the benefit of all academic staff of the institution, saying the most important thing for every person is to checkmate their health condition. Today marks the beginning of a line of activities that will help Kaduna Polytechnic staff stay healthy and health-responsive,” he said.
Comrade Shehu called on all KadPoly members to engage in all ASUP Week activities for the promotion of health values among the institution’s academic staff. Comrade Abdulazeez emphasized the need for staff to embrace exercise to refresh their system and improve their health.
A member of the ASUP Week committee, Comrade Mahmud Babaran, encouraged all staff to join hands in enjoying the freedom of one-week life-boosting activities with get-together and entertainment events.
