The National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) has reviewed and inspected about 78 programmes offered by the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi for accreditation and reaccreditation.
Similarly, the NBTE also inspected resources for other programmes to be run by the polytechnic ahead of their full accreditation.
WikkiTimes reports that the programmes assembled for the consideration of the NBTE team for awarding National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) include new programmes resulting from the unbundling of Mass Communication and Computer Science.
Director Polytechnic Education at the NBTE, Dr Fatima Umar, assured that management of the polytechnic of the board’s comitment to supporting the quality of the programmes presented for accreditation.
Represented by Adesina Oluade, the director commended management of the polytechnic for providing an enabling playing field for members of the team to discharge their duties effectively.
Speaking, the rector of the Polytechnic, Malam Sani Usman, said the institution has mounted Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in different exam halls in the institution to monitor, track, and prevent students from engaging in exam misconduct and malpractice.
In addition to the cameras, invigilators and supervisors also monitor the conduct of exams in the institution to ensure adequate watchdog on students to curb malpractices.
He said plans are underway to install additional cameras outside the halls to also track suspected acts of exam misconduct.
“We have installed CCTV Cameras in several key halls, and most of our classrooms have solar inverters to support the cameras’ work 24/7.
“We are also working on a TETFund research which was funded two years ago to see how CCTVs van installed outside classrooms to tackle insecurity and exam malpractice,” the Rector said.
Usman said the Polytechnic is currently reviewing its student handbook to include cyber trends of exam malpractice and also provide appropriate sanctions to punish suspected students found guilty.
The Rector noted that the NBTE inspected about 78 programmes offered for accreditation and resource inspection to continue operating in line with best global practices.
He said up-to-date equipment and machines needed for practicals have been installed to equip students with contemporary skills they need to thrive in their respective fields of study.
