Meet Prof. Engr M. S. Haruna the best student of two polytechnics in Nigeria – Academic Icon

Highest ranking Professor Mohammed Sani Haruna has a big dossier in Artificial Intelligence Development not only in Nigeria but championing the world science and engineering infrastructure development. Professor Haruna has utilized his prowess of knowledge in many of the opportunities he got including when he was the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

Prof. M. S is a registered/chartered member of Engineer with UK Engineering Council and Fellow of Nigerian Academy of Engineering, Nigerian Society of Engineers, IET and NATE.

While, Professor Haruna is a delightful humanist, seasoned administrator, eloquent speaker, pragmatic strategist, prodigious legislator whose entire life is propelled by progressive ideas he brings good changes for the people and he is passionate about people development. This makes people calling him to contest for the Nasarawa state governorship seat come 2027.

Born on November 20, 1963. Prof. Haruna holds a PhD and Masters of Engineering Degrees in Electrical Engineering from Bayero University Kano. He was trained earlier at Plateau and Kaduna Polytechnics for National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) respectively. He obtained a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Education and a PGD (Electrical Engineering) from The Federal University of Technology, Akure. He also obtained masters of Philosophy degree in Entrepreneurship from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Nairobi – Kenya. His second PhD in Entrepreneurship from the same JKUAT is in view.

Prof. Haruna has diverse working experiences which cuts cross industries, academic and government institutions. He worked previously as a Technician, Supervisor, Engineer, Maintenance and Services Manager and Technical Manager with many firms including NASCO Group of Companies, Ikara Food Processing Company, Mainsys Technical, Controlled Plastics Limited, Kano and New Nigerian Printing and Packaging Plc. He also received a specialist training on heavy-duty engines from MASONS POWER GENERATION U.K. and has overhauled several heavy-duty equipment.

Prof. Haruna was also the Managing Director of Central Support Engineering Limited from 1995 to 2009. He was one time Head of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Kaduna Polytechnic, a visiting Lecturer to Bayero University Kano, one time Director/Chief Executive Officer of Power Equipment and Electrical Machinery Development Institute (PEEMADI) Okene and was also Director Engineering Infrastructure at the Headquarters of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). Before his appointment as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of NASENI, he was Acting Director General/Chief Executive of the Agency.

Prof. Haruna is currently a visiting Professor to Nigerian Turkish Nile University (NTNU). He is a Registered Chartered Engineer with United Kingdom Engineering Council (U.K), COREN registered; a Fellow of the UK based Institution of Electrical Engineers (FIEE) now the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), he is also Fellow Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (FNATE) among others. He has varied publications in National and international journals. He is an author of many books.

Prof. Haruna development credentials and landmarks speak volumes. The highlights of which were meritorious awards including the best all round granduant of Kaduna and Plateau State polytechnics, best performing Director of Engineering Infrastructure Development Institutes 2010, and the Institution of Engineering and technology (IET) creativity and innovation award 2010 and merit award of excellence by Nigerian Society of Engineers 2012.He was a governing council member of Nasarawa State vocational and Relevant Technology Skill Acquisition Board.
