As part of its commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Education is rolling out a nationwide TVET Program to equip Nigerians with industry-relevant skills. In line with this initiative, the Ministry, through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), is calling on Skill Training Centres (STCs), Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs), and Mastercraft Persons (MCPs) to register for accreditation. Accreditation will enable them to receive government funding to train candidates under the TVET Program.
To ensure quality and standardization, the Ministry has set the following mandatory requirements for registration and accreditation:
Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs) must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and adopt National Skills Qualification (NSQ)-Based Curricula. They must have at least one qualified instructor per trade, maintaining a 1:40 instructor-to-student ratio. Each trade must also have a Quality Assurance Assessor (QAA) and an Internal Quality Assurance Manager (IQAM), or engage part-time personnel if unavailable.
Skill Training Centres (STCs) must also be CAC-registered and implement NSQ-Based Curricula. Each program requires a qualified instructor or an experienced senior artisan with at least NSQ Level 3 certification. Centres must have at least one QAA and one certified IQAM or engage part-time personnel if necessary.
Mastercraft Persons (MCPs) seeking accreditation must possess either a CAC registration or a National Identification Number (NIN) and adopt NSQ-Based Curricula. They must have at least one qualified instructor or experienced artisan with NSQ Level 3 certification. The training environment must include workshops and restrooms, with records of past training programs and certifications awarded.
Accredited institutions and individuals will be eligible for government funding to train candidates under the TVET Program. Interested applicants should apply via the NBTE Digital Portal: www.digitalnbte.nbte.gov.ng/TVET/TVETApplication2.
This will definitely help the nation to build more quality artisans and bring about quality Assurance in the production and services throughout the nation, also will inventually leads to more employments and self reliance
It’s a good idea but some times nbte tends to destroy their plans example there are so many polytechnic institutions training ond and hnd pharmaceutical technology in Nigeria alot of graduate has been trained but to our suprise we suddenly saw an mou between PCN and nbte signed to stop such an important course in the institutions there by rendering the graduates and prospective candidates useless.
It’s desheartining that developed countries are converting universities to polytechnics as a means of industrial revolution yet our educational authorities are conniving with other professional councils bodies to destroy others carriers
The PCN and Nbte last year signed Mou to stop further training of pharmaceutical technology courses in all the polytechnics in Nigeria for no reason.
Nbte why did you approved the course in first place.
PCN,: of what interest would you just stop a course please try and think further and bring back course and incorporate the graduates into your body to stop this type of unrealistic dichotomy of professionals

I graduated under NDE as one of the best craft man in 2002,but in my state nothing was given to me not even the NDE certificate nor tool box,how are we sure about this one??

Game changer for skill acquisition and development of the youths especially graduates. However, engaging existing skill training centres plus good monitoring will enable government achieve its objectives on this program if properly implemented.

This well designed for technical education and skills acquisition. However the FG need to decentralized the monitoring and implementation of this program to local level.
There thousands of artisans /skill workers turn to okada rider after graduation because no proper training in entrepreneurship. There is need for collaboration between Coren, all professional body in engineering and private sector.
Our consultancy are working in merging those train locally with those train in four wall classrooms.
