The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje wrote to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to rescind from not registering the Science and Laboratory Technology (SLT) students at the various nationwide camp for not having a professional certificate of the National Institute for Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT).
In a letter dated 28th August 2024, to the Director General, NYSC, the Executive Secretary of the NBTE explained that the Board has not accepted any professional body as a condition of NYSC registration.
“The attention of the Board has just been drawn to the report that, all Polytechnic
graduates with HND Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) were refused registration at the NYSC Camps due to not having professional registration certification with the National Institute for Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT).”
“ I write to bring to your attention that at no time did the NBTE accept registration with
any professional body as a condition for graduation,” the letter contains.
Professor Bugaje further stated that the NBTE Board do carry out joint accreditation
of the program together with the National Institute for Science Laboratory Technology
(NISLT) while other professional bodies are covered in the Memorandum of Understanding and opined that the NYSC should have contacted the NBTE Board for clearance and explanation before their decision of not registering the graduates.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary called on the NYSC to allow the HND graduates of all fields to continue with their registration at the NYSC camps as part of their mandatory academic exercise without obstruction, and pleaded that all professionals bodies to wait after the students’ one year mandatory service to register with them.
