Again ASUU rejects Tinubu’s new governing councils of universities

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that the composition of the new list of Governing Councils of Universities is worse than the previous one.

ASUU specifically said that Nigeria cannot manage the universities the way it is doing, saying that appointing politicians to Governing Councils of educational institutions and expecting real development to happen in stead of technocrat, would be a mirage.

National President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, who stated the position of the Union, said it was obvious that the composition in the new list was deliberately shortlisted with the clear aim for failure.

In the words of Osodeke; “Go and look at the list again, you will see that most of them are retired politicians. They are honourable this and honourable that. What does that tell us?

That is how terrible the thing has become. And we can’t run our universities like this if we truly want genuine development to take place”.

The ASUU President said that the academic staff had earlier posited that it was totally illegal for the Federal Government to constitute new Councils when the old ones it dissolved over 10 months ago were yet to complete their tenures in line with the University Act upon which they were constituted for the first instance.
